"Burraneer Place"

5 Hazel Place is an alteration and addition project to an existing two-storey home in Burraneer, perched above Port Hacking with sweeping views eastward toward Gunnamatta Park.

The design draws directly from the rhythms of its setting. Subtle curves along the façade echo the fractured shoreline of Port Hacking—an architectural nod to the gentle morning swell of the bay. Cascading greenery introduced along the upper levels amplifies the directional pull of the slab, reaching toward Jibbon.

The stepped front terrace is shaped by vertical level changes, creating a visual illusion of greenery waves—as if the landscape itself is drawn forward, carried by the site toward the water.

The home is positioned high above the bay and enjoys strong visual connections to the water. An open-plan layout was introduced to deepen the sensory experience, aligning the front entry with the pool at the rear. This creates a subtle auditory link: the sound of water carries through the house, weaving a continuous reminder of the harbour’s presence—its tides, its waves.
